Tattoo Services & Styles

From black & grey realism to first-tattoo guidance — every service we offer, with honest expectations on time, price, and process.

Specialty

Black & Grey Realism

Black & grey realism is the discipline of building photo-true depth, texture, and emotion using only ink density. No outlines doing the work for you, no colour to lean on — just controlled value and patience. At HeadRush Whitby, this is the discipline our resident realism team — Ross, Maks, Amy and Alina — has built their portfolios on, with training and experience that benchmark against Toronto realism studios, not Durham averages.

Style

Colour Realism

Colour realism layers vivid pigments to render skin tone, fabric, and natural light. At HeadRush our colour-realism work is led by Maks and Alina — both trained in long-format colour passes that hold their saturation as the tattoo settles.

Style

Fineline

Fineline tattooing uses a single needle (or very tight cluster) to draw delicate, illustrative work — script, botanicals, micro-portraits, geometry. Nadija and Alina lead our fineline bookings.

Style

Traditional / Old School

Bold lines, limited palette, classic American & sailor imagery. The style that ages best on skin because it was designed for skin from the start. Max is our resident traditional artist.

Style

Japanese & Irezumi

Long-format Japanese work — koi, dragons, hannya, wind-bars and water-flow composition built around the body. Designed for sleeves, back-pieces and body-suits. Booked by consultation only.

Style

Neo-Traditional

Neo-traditional builds on the traditional foundation with richer colour palette, more rendering, and modern subject matter. Botanical, animal, and decorative compositions are the most-booked subjects in this style.

Style

Illustrative

Illustrative tattoos read like a designed illustration — strong line weight, controlled colour, graphic composition. Bridges the gap between traditional discipline and contemporary art direction. Alina and Max take most of our illustrative bookings.

Style

Blackwork & Geometric

Blackwork — pure black, no grey — used for bold graphic compositions, ornamental work, geometry, mandalas, and large coverage pieces. Heavy on planning, deliberate on application.

Style

Script & Lettering

Custom script and lettering — single-word tributes, full quotes, names, dates. Drawn from scratch in a hand chosen for the placement and the meaning, not pulled from a font menu. Nadija leads our script bookings.

Service

Tattoo Cover-Ups

A cover-up is not a paint-over — it is a redesign that incorporates or hides what is already there. Some old work covers easily; some needs a few laser sessions first; some needs a different placement entirely. We give you an honest answer at the consultation, before you commit to anything.

Service

Portrait & Memorial Tattoos

Memorial work is one of the most asked-for and most personal categories we tattoo. Human portraits, pet portraits, signatures, dates, urn-incorporation. We treat these consultations as conversations first, design briefs second.

Service

Sleeves & Large-Scale Tattoos

A great sleeve is not a collection of small tattoos — it is a single composition designed for the muscle and movement of the arm or leg it sits on. We plan sleeves over multiple sessions, with progress photos at each stage so you always know what comes next.

Guide

Your First Tattoo

Most of our clients each week are first-timers. There is no mystique here, no judgement, no upselling. This page walks you through every step before you walk in — what to wear, what to bring, what we will and will not do, and what to expect on the day.
