How to Choose the Right Artist

How to Choose the Right Artist

April 22, 2026

Choosing the right artist can almost be as daunting as choosing your final design. Tattoos are a lifelong commitment and though there is fun and excitement in spontaneity, here we will offer some tips on how to have a tattoo you will be proud of for life.

1) STYLE

Check out different styles of tattoos. Not every artist does every style of tattoo. Checking out an artist's portfolio can help confirm the style of tattoo you are looking for. For instance, someone who regularly does bold, traditional tattoos, may not be the right fit for a realistic black and grey project. At our shop, we match people based on this all of the time. This is how you will get an end result that you actually love.

2) LOOK FOR HEALED WORK

The proof is in the pudding as they say. Seeing an artist's healed work will give you confidence to know how your tattoo is going to last with proper aftercare. This type of research will allow you to see how their technique settles in the skin. Our artists love to post healed photos and we invite clients to return for healed photo sessions. Who doesn't want a photo of themselves with the new ink? And it's free!

3) CHEAP TATTOOS DO NOT END UP CHEAP

Although seeing a high price can be alarming, if you immediately resort to an artist with a cheaper price, you may end up paying more for it long term by having to get your tattoo fixed. Our artists restore old work (from other artists) frequently, this is why their prices are backed up by the quality of their work. It is better to invest to do it right the first time. Our artists offer sit down consultations to see what can be done within your budget so you still get a quality tattoo that is affordable.

4) FEELING COMFORTABLE

Getting a tattoo is a vulnerable process. You want to ensure you feel comfortable with someone who you are about to spend some hours with. A good artist will talk you through the process, answer questions and make you feel secure before anything starts.

5) CONSULTATION MATTERS

The consultation process is a valuable one and here at our shop you get the value for free. This is the blueprint to your tattoo; a map of how this process is going to go. You will leave with an understanding of what your design looks like on your area of placement, how large or small you are looking to have it as well as pricing so nothing is a surprise the day of your session.

Tattoos don't need to be rushed. They don't need to be a gamble. If you aren't sure which artist is best for you, reach out and the shop will guide you so that the process is fun and easy.
